An important race

Last year Bronte had to be carried around the oval in the cross country race as she refused to do it. Despite a week of nightly anxiety about the event, and assertions that she wouldn't do it again, Bronte took off like a champion, and was even in the leading pack until fading slightly at the end. So super proud of her.

With best mate Will after the race.

Winner!

Bronte won an encouragement award at little athletics. Encouragement awards are for those kids that weren't the fastest, and didn't do the most personal bests, but did quite a lot of personal bests. So - in summary - she did pretty awesome. Her long jump distance improved by over a metre, and her 70 metres time by ~ 5 seconds. Helped a lot when I recommended that she look straight ahead, not at her friends.... So super proud.

Frogmouth spotting

I met Jen at a conference in Amherst, US, and recognising her talent, invited her to Australia. She sourced her own funding and came out to Australia to the lab in Melbourne. But - she came up to visit and stay with me for a week where Bronte and Zach bonded instantaneously with her. Amazing scientist she may be, but eagle eye she is not. Can you see the Tawny Frogmouth? I had to stop Jen from bumping it off its perch on our visit to walkabout creek.

A joke from Zach

Q: Why did the crocodile cross the road?
A: Because it came out of the chimney
